Say what you will about the next interior design trends, but one thing is for sure: they’re almost impossible to disregard. Even if you’re staunchly unaffected by the so-called winds of change, interior design trends have a stochastic and dynamic nature that will impact almost every aspect of your home.

You may not embrace them in your own living space, but rest assured you can spot them almost everywhere. From colour trends painted on your local café’s wall to that eye-catching side table at your favourite bar, there’s even a good chance your go-to boutique will be subtly displaying the latest décor trends, too. Embrace them or not, trends happen.

Interior Design in 2024 – What Does the Future Hold?

In 2022, we saw an entry of natural materials and earth-inspired colours take priority, especially in communal spaces like the living room. Blame three years of living through a pandemic, but biophilic design continues to take off, with tons of designers taking their cues from nature via new lines, shapes and natural textures.

As always, climate change and the high energy prices are front and centre, and many designers mention sustainable and locally made design as an emerging trend.

Textured Walls

Textured wall ideas can make an interior space more interesting, a cool space cosier, and every area of the house much more elegant and characterful and layered.

You can apply texture through plaster, wallcoverings, paint, wood and tiles, and doing so will add interest to rooms that can be matched with textured furnishings and accessories, too.

A universal definition of beauty and aesthetic excellence is always difficult, but fortunately, at ARENCOS we know to identify several generally accepted principles that can be used to achieve an understanding of the aesthetic considerations in architecture and interior design.

The Return of Traditional

Goodbye minimalism, hello Art Deco and traditional furniture? Yes, we’ve been predicting the return of traditional interiors for some time now, but as the way of many design trends, this one has taken a while to percolate.

Due to the pandemic, furniture and home decorating trends have shifted away from the minimalism, simplicity and sleekness of modern for a return to the comfort and cosiness and furniture that lasts a lifetime and isn’t replaced half a dozen times.

We think people are going back to their roots. Not to say that contemporary is stark because obviously, you can make that relaxed, but big, rolled arms make it so you can kind of snuggle in a little bit more. When you think of a dining table, these glossy legs are exquisite designs that are hard to find nowadays.

More With Marble

While not so much a trend per se (a beautiful piece of marble never goes out of elegance and style), the prolific use of stone in our homes isn’t set to decline and we are almost convinced it will never fade.

Marble home decor remains a timeless staple in the art of interior design. With a rich history of architectural and structural glory from Solomon’s temple to the Parthenon of Ancient Greece and from the Taj Mahal to the pillars of the Supreme Court, decorative marble elicits the essence of integrity, durability, and luxury wherever it is displayed.

What will change, however, is how it’s used especially in places like the kitchen benchtop or the bathroom.

Sustainability

Interior sustainability is about the needs of the contemporary without compromising the aptitude of future generations to meet their own. Sustainable interior design is environmentally conscious with an emphasis on recycled materials and low carbon footprint emissions.

We understand sustainability in design as the use of objects or products that are characterized by certain principles of economic and social sustainability, but mostly of ecological sustainability.

Smaller yet Smarter Properties

Due to current supply chain issues and the extremely high energy prices, the costs of building and renovating are rising so steeply, we expect to see a lean towards smaller residential properties in Crete with less of an environmental footprint.

This includes making the most of natural light, using shading and ventilation to reduce the constant need for heating and cooling, and a shift towards electric energy for cleaner air in the future.

Smart home technology or home automation provides homeowners safety, comfort, convenience and energy efficiency by allowing them to control smart devices, often by a smart home app on their smartphone or other networked devices.

By integrating the Internet of Things (IoT), smart home systems and devices can effectively operate together to proceed to automate actions based on the owners’ preferences, needs and priorities.

Homes around the world are getting smarter. Data from the Statista Technology Market Outlook estimates that over 130 million households are home to at least one smart speaker, for example, and this figure is expected to rise to as many as 335 million in the next 5 years.
